Charles Burkett is going out with a whimper — or rather, a desperate, unhinged bang. While he is clearly having a public mental breakdown, his desperate emails are now hitting our inboxes 2-3 times a day, growing more divisive, more vicious, and more detached from reality with every blast. In his latest rant, he branded former Mayor and current candidate Shlomo Danzinger as “corrupt and dangerous” for his open, transparent affiliation with Surfside First — a resident-created PAC formed by locals who were sick of two years of dysfunction. Danzinger disclosed this affiliation from day one. No hiding. No games. What Burkett and his allies have deliberately silenced is far more damning: Tina Paul’s cozy relationship with some of the sleaziest players in South Florida politics. While Danzinger works with a local resident PAC, Tina Paul has quietly brought in Christian Ulvert — one of Miami-Dade’s most notorious political consultants. Ulvert is deeply tied to the Democratic establishment and has been involved in controversial development pushes, including the Fontainebleau waterpark proposal that raised serious red flags among residents worried about overdevelopment and backroom deals. That’s not all. Tina Paul’s campaign is being sponsored and funded by the Miami-Dade County Democratic Executive Committee, whose war chest is stuffed with millions from the biggest and most notorious large-scale developers and lobbyists in South Florida (over $7.5 million reported in 2026 alone). She’s also being boosted by Equality Florida Action PAC ($7,643,642 in contributions last year) and SAVE Action PAC ($107,073), both heavily focused on advancing national LGBTQ+ agendas. This isn’t local leadership. This is Tina Paul selling out Surfside to big-money outside interests and shady consultants. Residents should be asking Tina Paul some very uncomfortable questions:
Look at the expensive onslaught we’re seeing: the flood of phone calls, aggressive text messages, slick TV commercials, and glossy mailers. All that money has a source — and it’s not coming from Surfside living rooms. The real question every resident needs to ask is: What is this really going to cost Surfside if Tina Paul gets in? Because when you climb into bed with Christian Ulvert, big developers, and out-of-town PAC machines, they don’t do favors for free. They expect payback. And “preserving the character of Surfside” is rarely part of the deal. Shlomo Danzinger has been upfront and transparent with the people who actually live here. Tina Paul? She’s playing a very different game. The hypocrisy is glaring. The corruption is staring us in the face. The choice for Surfside has never been clearer. Don’t let the noise and the money bury the truth. |
Surfside Community Watch is an independent group of engaged and caring residents. While we are not officially affiliated with the Town of Surfside, our mission is to keep the community informed about local events and happenings.
Two days after taking office, Mayor Danzinger is already moving fast. Within days of being sworn in, he replaced the town attorney, and rumors suggest even more major shakeups are underway. To be fair, Danzinger campaigned on addressing the growing number of lawsuits against the town, and he appears determined to act quickly. But that is a story for another email. This week, during the regular commission meeting, commissioners will select appointments for the town’s boards and committees. One...
After more than a decade of intermittent service as Surfside’s mayor, Charles W. Burkett appears to be exiting the stage in a manner eerily reminiscent of former President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign. Biden’s visible cognitive struggles ultimately forced him from the race once they could no longer be ignored. Now, Surfside residents are confronting a similar spectacle in their own town hall. Over the past two years, Burkett’s public conduct has grown increasingly erratic, raising serious...
Surfside is now facing a Live Local development that could permanently alter the character of our town, and the Town Commission has chosen silence over leadership. On November 26, Florida Postal Holdings, LLC submitted a letter of intent and site plans for a Live Local project at the former post office site on 95th Street, between Collins Avenue and Harding Avenue. The Live Local Act, SB 102, enacted by the State of Florida in March 2023, allows developers to override local zoning under the...
